Inspiration(s) and Competitions from Birds Eye #Birdseyebloggers

To welcome me to the team of  #Birdseyebloggers, Birds Eye recently sent me through a little goodie pack including this lovely hardbacked journal and pen. They suggested using it for jotting down any recipes that inspired me, but we had other ideas - it's been made into our geocaching journal for writing down the coordinates and hints and logging our finds. (If you haven't been following our geocaching adventures, you can see what we've been getting up to by clicking on the geocaching tag.)

They also sent us through some vouchers so we decided to try out their latest product range, called Inspirations. Described as "chicken bursting with an irresistible sauce", they come in four varieties - Garlic & Herb, Chicken & Ham, Tomato & Basil and Peri Peri.

We tried the first two and they were very nice. The Garlic & Herb ones reminded me of chicken kievs and the kids loved the mild, smooth flavour of the cheese & ham ones. Served with a baked potato and salad, they made a fuss-free lunch - I literally put them in the oven on a baking tray with the potatoes for 1/2 hour and lunch was ready to serve ! (I zapped the potatoes in the microwave for 15 minutes so they softened up, before finishing them off in the oven to get crispy skins and the lovely fluffy texture that you just can't get when you microwave them.) Each 125g portion contains 310 calories and 17g of fat (of which 4g saturates) for the Garlic & Herb and 295 calories and 15g of fat (of which 2.6g saturates) for the Cheese & Ham. As you can see from the pack shot, they are currently on a Try Me Free offer until the end of June (send them the "try me free" logo and the receipt and tell them what you think of them for a full refund). Their other new product line is Fish Chargrills which sound interesting, so I'll have to look out for those next time.

To celebrate the launch of Inspirations, Birds Eye are launching The Picture House, where they will be introducing the world’s first Instagram restaurant where diners pay by photo. They are running an Instagram competition to provide a platform to share inspiring food images with the Birds Eye community, showing off inspiring evening meals you have created yourself or with the family. You just need to upload the image onto Instagram using the hashtag #BirdsEyeInspirations, making sure it is as creative, colourful and original as possible, and you could win a space at The Picture House restaurant on May 14th, a photography session with a top Foodie Instagrammer to help you learn how to take some AMAZING food photos plus a Samsung Galaxy Camera. Get snapping ! For more details, go to http://picturehouse.birdseye.co.uk/

While you've got your camera at the ready, you might like to hear about another exciting photo competition from Birds Eye, offering a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for members of the public to be photographed by world renowned photographer, Martin Parr. Martin will travel the country documenting real people who depict the typical, modern eating habits in Britain and three of those lucky subjects will be selected via entries submitted on birdseyeview.birdseye.co.uk.  (I wonder what they'd think of our chip-butties-in-a-Hello-Kitty-tent-on-the-beach moment of madness that you can see above !) Martin’s new photographic project is a part of wider study looking into the nation’s eating habits – The Big Mealtime Audit – and will culminate in an exhibition showcased in London in September. All you need to do to enter the competition is take a photo of your family/friends at dinner time - this could be as fun or as crazy as you like - then upload your photo and a short description about why you think your photograph represents modern dining. The winner’s photo will be featured in an exhibition for press and media.

Wow, there's certainly lots going on at Birds Eye at the moment !
