Break the myth - the Meningitis glass test alone isn't enough

I'm sure that all parents have at some point heard that the way to tell if your child has meningitis is to push a glass on the rash and see if it disappears. Well, it turns out that that is not entirely true. The Meningitis Trust has released this powerful video to help bust the myth. They explain that :

- It is a common misconception that a meningitis rash appears in every case of meningitis. This is not true. If someone has meningitis but not septicaemia, they will not have a rash that does not fade, but they can still be seriously unwell. Never wait for a rash.

- Meningitis is the disease parents fear the most. And with 50% of all cases occurring in children under five, it's easy to see why. They encourage parents to familiarise themselves with the symptoms, so that they can spot any of the tell-tale signs straight away and get urgent medical help.

Please take a few minutes to watch the video, then click through to www.meningitis-trust.org/symptoms, even though I hope none of you will ever need to use the knowledge gained. (If you're reading this in the daily digest, the video won't appear but you can see it on youtube at http://youtu.be/73sEN2tdcYo )
